Story

I'm Pete Davey. Some of you reading this story may know me as a Nordic Walking, Personal Training and Fitness Instructor. You may also be aware that I live with CLL, Chronic Lymphatic Leukaemia. I have done so since my diagnosis in 2014. That has not stopped my passion for health, wellbeing and sport. All my life I've been involved in sport in an amateur way; football, squash, snooker, but mostly Endurance Cycling and more latterly Ultra Challenge Walking.

However, on my CLL diagnosis and the subsequent six months of chemotherapy the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre in Enfield has been a great source of support for me in many ways and I cant thank them enough for that support.

At the outset of this awful Pandemic that we have all endured, I was told to shield which meant, like many others, I was housebound as extremely vulnerable on my medical teams advice. For someone who has been so active up to that point this hit very hard. Fortunately I still have my indoor training bike which I used to train on indoors as an Endurance Cyclist so I was able to exercise and keep fit using the bike.

Now as you read this you are probably aware that all charities like the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre Enfield are really strapped for cash and with little or no governmental support. During all my pre-lockdown events I tried to raise money for charity and I don't mind saying these were generally for larger nationwide charities who have many thousands of contributors throughout the UK but now I am thinking local, smaller charities need sponsorship from local participants like myself to survive and that is why I am asking you to sponsor me for my upcoming challenges;

- Easter 50 Challenge on 9th April

- St Albans Half Marathon in June

- Great North Run in September

I would just like to say a huge Thank You for taking the time to read my story and thank you from myself and on behalf of the Nightingale for any donation no matter how big or small you may be able to give. Thank You sincerely. Pete
