You may have seen on the news some of the scenes from India as a population of over 1.3 billion people anticipates the Coronavirus sweeping through the country. The imposed lockdown has had a particularly devastating impact on daily wages (zero hours contract) workers in the Nagpur area. Hundreds of small industries have been fully shut down, thereby eliminating the only source of income for thousands of India's poorest people.
In an attempt to alleviate another human catastrophe during this global disaster, Phoenix India hopes to be able to help CRTDP provide vital food parcels for the worst affected families in the Nagpur Area, with over 2000 households having been identified. Each food parcel will cost approximately £10 and will include essential items such as rice, wheat, lentils, salt, sugar and cooking oil, providing much needed respite and, ultimately, a means of survival.
Our target is to support as many destitute families as we can by appealing to the kindness of friends and colleagues, helping us to provide as many food parcels as possible.
