Story
Our gorgeous little lady Piper is 2 years old and lives in Balfron, near Glasgow. Piper was born prematurely and has a rare neurological condition called Lissencephaly. This means that Piper’s brain is smooth instead of having the usual wrinkles and folds. This causes epilepsy with daily seizures as well as severe developmental delay which means that she can’t roll, sit, crawl or walk and has limited head control. Additionally, Piper has problems with her kidneys, breathing and keeping her chest clear and moderate hearing loss. She has a feeding tube and uses oxygen overnight.
In spite of her health issues Piper is a brave, loving and happy little girl. In her own ways she lets us know exactly how she is feeling and what she wants. She’s got the cutest pouty smile and is the queen of side-eye! Her favourite things are being with the people she loves, cuddles, stories, being in water, going for walks, kitchen discos, and any form of movement be that riding a bus or being swooshed around in her standing frame or activity chair.
Like all parents, we want the best for our child. We want to support Piper in experiencing and enjoying as much of the world as she can and to develop as much as she is able. We want to continue to create as many happy memories as possible with Piper.
As Piper is growing it is becoming more of a challenge to get out and about with her. Some of the equipment we would like to raise funds to provide for Piper include a special portable seat to give her supportive seang while out with her home e.g. on flights or at restaurants. We would also like to purchase an off-road wheelchair or buggy so we can go on more varied and adventurous walks.
There are also therapies and accompanying equipment which are not funded by the NHS which we would like to provide for her.
We have set up this campaign as a result of some wonderful and generous people who have expressed their wish to help us and we appreciate all the love and support our family has been shown.
