Story
Following the successful trial of the 'Park and Play Mobil' in the summer term 2024, the school are pleased to share that a permanent 'Scrapstore Playpod' at school has been opened. It is now being used at lunchtime to enhance children's playtime experiences. This has been funded by a generous grant from the Learn 2 Live Well fund as well as a large amount from the PTA. In addition, there are ongoing costs relating to training and maintenance of the resource.
Created by Bristol-based charity Children's Scrapstore, the shed contains clean, safe and non-hazardous 'waste materials' for pupils to play with, such as car tyres, crates, cardboard tubes, electronic equipment or wood cut-offs. It is based on a theory of loose parts in play, where children can use deconstructed materials in more creative and inventive ways to generate unlimited play outcomes. Amongst other benefits, the scheme has been shown to boost pupils' creativity, socialisation and physical activity and has certainly been very well received by the pupils during the opening sessions.
Any amount parents/carers can give towards this resource would be gratefully received so that the PTA can also give to other school priorities as they arise.
