On 23 September, our beloved Cherry Red Records Stadium was struck by devastating floods when the River Wandle burst its banks, leaving our Foundation's event space and 5-a-side astro turf pitch completely underwater. This has caused significant disruption to our local community activities, including Active Ageing sessions, walking football for older adults, women and girls-only sessions, disability groups, and school outreach programmes.
These vital sessions provide a lifeline to hundreds of people in our community, offering a space to stay active, social, and engaged in their football journey. Without them, many will face isolation, a lack of physical activity, and the loss of a critical support network.
We have been truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, we have raised over £10,000 in just two days. This is an incredible achievement, as it not only covers the funds we had hoped to raise at our Foundation Day (which was set for this Saturday against Accrington Stanley) but also ensures that our sessions can continue while repairs are underway at the stadium.
Any future donations will go towards enhancing and growing the number of sessions we can provide for our community in the near future.
Every pound you give will ensure that we keep the local community connected, active, and thriving.
Thank you for your generosity and solidarity in this challenging moment.
With gratitude,
AFC Wimbledon Foundation
