Polytunnels at TWIGS

Storms have ripped our polytunnels, and we need them to germinate seeds and propagate new plants for our gardens (and for a bit of shelter in cold or bad weather). Without them, we cant provide the year-round service that our people need.

Story

As part of the Swindon based Recovery Tree Charity and based on the Cheney Manor Estate, TWIGS has been delivering nature based therapy sessions to people struggling with their mental health for the past 25 years.

We have three polytunnels which we use to germinate seeds and propagate new plants for our gardens. They also provide some semi-indoor space that we can use in cold or bad weather. Without these, we couldnt provide the year-round service that our people need.

The combined onslaught of storms in February has ripped a large hole in one polytunnel, and started up several small holes which are now rapidly growing in a second. We need to get both coverings replaced.

"Coming to TWIGS has literally saved my life" says Sheila working in the gardens, "the hope and promise of new life from sowing and growing plants has helped me through some of the darkest times"

About the charity

The Olive Tree Café offers people positive, work -related opportunities in a café open to the public, to take them a step nearer the world of work. TWIGS is a community garden where people can regain confidence and self-esteem through learning new skills.
