Each year, Birds of Poole Harbour work with Wildlife Windows to install brilliant motion-sensitive cameras onto key Osprey nesting platforms across the harbour. These cameras allow us to monitor the comings and goings of Ospreys to Poole Harbour and are an essential part of our Osprey reintroduction project. They are particularly important in alerting us to the return of Ospreys from their winter migration, as has been the case in recent years with CJ7, LS7 and Beaky. Even with the fantastic livestream webcam that we installed in 2020 (thanks to your generous donations!), these additional cameras allow us to monitor Osprey activity in the rest of the harbour. During the migratory period, these photos also offer us insight into the numbers of Ospreys using the harbour as a stopover location, as well as the potential for returnees to the area in future seasons.
This campaign is to raise funds for the reinstallation of these key cameras, as well as the photo packages for the 2021 season. This allows the team to receive photos from the different nests every 2 hours, meaning we can are always up to date with any Osprey drama or when to keep our eyes on the skies. When we receive significant photos, we post them on our social media and website, so that you can be a part of the excitement. You can check out some of the photos, both from our motion-sensitive and livestream cameras, in our 2020 Osprey Diary here .
We hope you are able to help our campaign and are already counting down the days to the 2021 Osprey season. Any additional funds raised through this campaign will go towards general Osprey project developments. Thank you for your continued support, here's hoping for a great season!
