Peanut’s Second Chance: Help Our Little Puppy Heal

Four-month-old Peanut came into our care suffering from severe mange and extensive hair loss. He now needs veterinary treatment, medication and ongoing care. Please help us raise £2,000 to give Peanut the chance to heal and enjoy his puppyhood.

RSPCA Cornwall Branch is a rehoming centre that takes in stray, abandoned, abused or unwanted animals, regardless of the age, medical or behavioural needs. Our branch is self funded, all the money we raise goes directly to support animal welfare in Cornwall. It costs £1million per year to run.

Story

Peanut is just four months old. He needs our help.

This is Peanut.

He is just four months old.

At an age when a puppy should be growing, playing, exploring the world and discovering everything life has to offer, Peanut’s little body already tells a very different story.

Peanut came to the attention of our Community Welfare Team after help was sought for him. As part of that support, we arranged and funded veterinary care.

It was only when Peanut was seen in person that the full extent of his condition became clear.

Peanut was suffering from severe mange. His skin was sore, inflamed and damaged, and he had already lost extensive amounts of his coat. Mange is caused by microscopic mites and, when it becomes this severe, the damage to the skin can leave dogs vulnerable to painful secondary infections and require ongoing treatment and careful management.

For any dog, this is a significant condition. But Peanut is just four months old. At an age when his little body should be putting its energy into growing, and developing, he was already coping with extensive skin disease and desperately needed the chance to recover.

Peanut needs far more than a single veterinary appointment. He needs treatment, careful nursing and somewhere safe where getting him well could come first.

Following conversations with his owners, it was agreed that the best thing for Peanut was for him to be relinquished into our care.

And that is where Peanut’s story changes.

He is now safe with us at RSPCA Cornwall Branch, and we are beginning to understand exactly what this little puppy is going to need.

There will be veterinary treatment, medication and ongoing management of his skin, alongside good nutrition, warmth, comfort and all the things a growing puppy needs. There may be further investigations and treatment as we learn more about his condition and help his body recover.

We are hoping to raise £2,000 towards Peanut’s veterinary treatment and ongoing care.

We don’t yet know exactly what his recovery will involve, but we do know that we will give him everything he needs.

And that’s why we’re asking for your help.

Every donation towards Peanut’s care will help us give this four-month-old puppy the treatment, time and love he needs to recover.

When you look at these photographs, we want you to remember one thing:

These are Peanut’s before photographs.

He has an entire life ahead of him.

Please help us make sure it’s a good one. ❤️

We are aiming to raise £2,000 towards Peanut’s veterinary treatment and ongoing care. If we raise more than is needed for Peanut, or if his treatment costs less than anticipated, any remaining funds will be used to provide veterinary treatment and care for other animals who need our help. If we don’t reach our target, the funds raised will still be used towards Peanut’s treatment and care.
