We are fundraising by virtually walking in teams from Lands End to John O'Groats. The money will enable us to continue to provide vital services for people who are in immediate need of mental health support. We want people especially those effected by the pandemic to be able to access immediate help by opening extra talking therapy slots, more mentoring and continue our urgent response telephone service which was developed when the first lockdown came and currently makes over 300 calls per week, this is an unfunded much needed service. Whilst many people are excited about the world opening again some are struggling with the anxiety this is causing. Again during lockdown we developed an outreach service which we wish to continue, helping people to slowly come out of their homes again.
The teams will combine their steps and keep you updated on where they are at the end of each week. We are going to see if 6 legs are better than 12. Team one has six people walking and team two three. More details on the teams will be in the centre.
Below five of the hundreds of people we support say what the service has done for them.
M1 I had made my decision to take my life, nothing was going to stop me however it didnt work, and I was referred to Positive Futures, I still decided I wasnt going to carry on when I received a call from Positive Futures, they had only received my details a couple of hours earlier and I am not used to people making me priority. After a long conversation they talked me into going in to meet them. Their service is exceptional, you are the most important person in the room, they work around your needs. I was so chaotic, not coping and they have slowly helped me to build myself up, managing simple tasks again, smiling, looking forward to waking up and much more. They are amazing, I am so happy to be alive.
D1 Positive Futures saved my life.
D2 I lost my wife before her time, I am so sad and lonely, people close to me either avoid me or say time will heal. I love going to Positive Futures they listen to me no matter my mood, I meet people who care, and it is a very safe place. I have also enjoyed the lively telephone calls throughout lockdown. For a few hours a week I feel needed, listen too and relaxed. I do not know where I would be without them.
J1 To say I was a mess when I walked into Positive Futures is a major underestimation. I would have to write an essay of everything they did for me although they say I did for myself with support. They got lots of other services involved with me, came to the Doctors and as I said much more. As time has passed, I work, volunteer in my spare time, love life and love myself. It is hard to describe what they do, its amazing, unbelievable and definitely underfunded.
S1 I walked into Positive Futures and after ten minutes had found what I had been looking for, for years to help me improve my mental health, Positive Futures should be on prescription.
