Story
How can a community help its children and youth to develop strong, active and healthy minds... and how can a community help its older folk to grow connections, have opportunities to make friendships and keep their minds sharp...
One way is to come together to play Chess.
Here in Clackmannanshire, Central Scotland we don't have a community Chess Club. Glen (in the Gallery photo above) works at a local primary school and with colleagues has developed a children's Chess club... it has been successful. Stimulating minds, creating friendships and the children really enjoy it. So, Glen and colleagues approached the Academy School, and helped set up a Chess club there, so the children can keep on playing, and they do. But what next?
Mary & Angela are going to be walking from St. Andrews to Dundee, around 20 miles on Sunday 11th August. This is part of the Dundee Kiltwalk, so it will be a fun day out, as well as a challenge! They are raising money for the Chess Club. Inspired by Glen, Resonate Together will start a Chess Club, for all ages, all abilities and will be the first Community Chess Club in the county for some years.
To set up the club we need to buy chess boards and the pieces, and should the players wish to develop inter-club competitions, then we need clocks and well, all sorts! ... if you can make any donation, we would be very grateful, as this will really help. We have set the Sponsored Walk target at £400 - which will give us 8 basic sets - but what if more people want to play? So Mary and Angela will keep training, keep walking and together we can all aim for a thriving county Chess Club for all!
