Story
Will is a bright, determined and fun-loving 10-year-old from Bath who embraces life with enthusiasm. He loves reading, gaming with his friends, playing the drums and competing in wheelchair basketball. Like any child his age, he wants to spend time with friends, explore new opportunities and enjoy everything that life has to offer.
Will has cerebral palsy, which affects all four of his limbs. He uses a range of mobility aids every day to help him access school, sport and the activities he enjoys. Whilst he faces physical challenges, he is fiercely independent and always wants to do as much as possible for himself.
As parents, we have watched Will work incredibly hard for every bit of independence he has gained. Things that many children take for granted often require extra effort, perseverance and specialist support. Yet Will rarely focuses on the things he cannot do. Instead, he is determined to keep up with his friends and make the most of every opportunity.
Next year, Will will start secondary school. For many children this is an exciting milestone. For Will, it also brings new challenges. The school site will be much larger, with longer distances between lessons and a far greater physical demand throughout the day.
We are raising funds for an Empulse R90 power-assist attachment for Will's wheelchair, alongside any additional specialist mobility equipment he may need as he grows and transitions to secondary education. The Empulse R90 would be life-changing. It would help Will travel longer distances, navigate a busy school day and maintain the independence that means so much to him. It would allow him to focus on learning, friendships and school life rather than the physical effort of getting from place to place.
For Will, this is about much more than mobility. It is about freedom, confidence and the opportunity to experience secondary school alongside his friends.
Unfortunately, specialist mobility equipment such as this is not funded by the NHS.
