Story

There has been a Christian presence on this site for the last 1300 years but we need your help to maintain the Church and the Churchyard.

St Tysilio Church is very much part of the Community of Four Crosses and surrounding area with Services held every week. Details are on the Noticeboard and can be seen via Llandysilio Community Council Website: llandysilio-council.org.uk

The Church is Grade II Listed and is one of only a few Churches in Wales to have a Round Tower.

The present Church was designed by G E Street and built in 1867 using the local grey granite from the nearby Welshpool Quarry. The roof is covered in welsh slate.

The Church sits within a circular churchyard and it is thought that ancient Britains used this site to perform pagan rituals and planted the original yew trees to protect their primitive temples. The Yew Trees you see today were planted in 1717 and 1719.

The first church was built on the site about 1300 years ago and would have been built of wattle and daub. A photograph of this earlier church can be seen inside the Church in the Childrens corner.

Inside the Church there are many beautiful stained-glass windows, a Pulpit built from Bath stone and several plaques. One of these is in memory of Captain Thomas Tannatt Pryce, M C of the Grenadier Guards, who was awarded the Victoria Cross following his death in France in 1918 aged just 32.

If you wish to spend time in the Church please arrange this by ringing Carol 01691 831008 or Mike 01691 831258
