Story
Llandrinio Church is a beautiful ancient parish church. It is thought that St Trinio first preached the gospel in these parts in the 6th Century. Then the Church would have been a timber structure. There have been many changes over the centuries. These changes often reflected the wealth and prosperity of the area at that time. The Normans made great changes, adding a chapel and a new nave. They also added the main doorway, the font and the arch of the arcade. In the 13th Century a Charter was granted to hold weekly markets and 2 annual fairs of 3 days in length to be held around the festival of Ss Peter and Paul. Llandrinio was booming then!
The 15th Century witnessed a great decline in the importance of Llandrinio and sadly the Church fabric reflected this. The Church was dismantled and altered to be nearly half its original size.
In the 19th Century a bell tower was erected and this is very much the Church you see today.
The community of Llandrinio are great supporters of the Church. Despite lifestyles being different for many people these days, many feel a strong connection with the Church as it plays an important role in this parish of bringing people together especially at Weddings, Christenings and Funerals.
We are always working hard to keep the Church open and accessible to all.
To achieve this aim we are always fundraising! Our most recent achievement is to get mains water into the Church. The next stage is to get some toilet facilities up and running.
