Story

Our Club

Preston Sports Club is committed to supporting the development of young people through access to hockey, cricket and football. We believe that learning to enjoy a competitive team sport with a strong social element is fantastically beneficial to the health and wellbeing of all involved, especially young people. The club currently has 6 men's hockey teams, 2 ladies hockey teams, 2 junior hockey teams and 2 cricket teams, and the pitches and facilities are also hired out to a number of junior football teams. Our junior hockey section is particularly vibrant with over 100 members.

The club is based in Broadgate in Preston. We are committed to becoming a community hub ensuring that we are providing services that will engage, empower and enrich the local community. We are a founder member of Broadgate Community Connectors (BCC), a project that aims to bring together local faith, community and statutory organisations to address social issues in the community, all centring around the Preston Sports Club hub. Members of the BCC include St Stephens Church, St Stephens School, Gujarat Hindu Society, Salaheen Mosque, Buddhist Centre, Adactus Housing Group, Preston Police, Preston United Youth Development Programme, Broadgate Residents Association, Preston City Council and Lancashire County Council. Through this and our inclusive attitude to sports coaching and opportunities, we are aiming to improve the wellbeing of our members, visitors and the wider community.

What we are fundraising for

Our club has a full artificial grass pitch which was originally constructed in 1992 and resurfaced in 2006. The surface has now reached its end of life again and requires replacing. We have plans in place that will raise over 80% of the required cost from grants, member donations and club fundraisers. We are now seeking help to raise the final £34,000 which would allow replacement in the summer of 2020.

The total cost of the pitch replacement project is anticipated to be £204k.

What will your donation do for us

Together with other fundraising activities, your donation will support a new playing surface to be laid in August 2020. This will allow us to retain use of the club as a family hub for sport, and to maintain our ability to support and widen participation and activity levels in the broader community, working to address issues such as mental health, physical well being, loneliness and anti-social behaviour.

Donate £10 and have your name recognised!

To help raise the £40,000 needed to complete our goal of a new pitch, we are requesting your kind and hopefully generous donations. Any amount large or small will help. In return for a £10 donation, your name will be written on one of 5000 squares on a fund raising chart displayed in the Clubhouse. The 5,000 squares represent the 50m x 100m size of the pitch! Once the pitch is laid, a notice highlighting the names of all donors will be prominently displayed in recognition of their kindness in supporting our wonderful family focused facility. This is your chance to contribute and to provide our wonderful community the chance to play sport and improve wellbeing.
