Hedgehogs are the UK's favourite wild mammal and yet they are in serious decline. Numbers are dangerously low and we all need to act now to save them from extinction.
Last year we took in over 1300 sick or injured hedgehogs which we assessed, nursed and medicated and released back to the wild. We continue to grow and are faced with increased policies, rules and regulations around delivering medication and record keeping.
All our volunteers give their time for free, but we have new reached a stage where we need a paid member of staff 14 hours a week to ensure that everything continues to be done to the highest standard possible.
Its very hard to get core funding grants at the moment as most grants following covid and the cost of living crisis are aimed at people and communities not animal welfare.
The addition of a part time Hedgehog hospital nurse will also free up our founders Alan and Judy to develop the charity further so we can take in more hedgehogs, offer more placements for students , work placements for adults with learning disabilities and Duke of Edinburgh awards. They both work tirelessly every day with the hedgehogs, delivering talks to community groups, making hedgehog houses to sell and bring in needed funds.
We cover a huge area of South Devon , recently smaller hedgehog rescues have had to close due to lack of funds. We are fortunate to have a large loyal following and the most amazing volunteers you could ever be lucky enough to have.
Any money you can spare will go to the salary of our part time Nurse and we are grateful for whatever you can give.
