Association for children damaged by hormone pregnancy tests. To expose the truth about these drugs and gain justice for our children and their parents. Children suffered dreadful effects and Mothers suffered miscarriages and stillbirth. To raise funds for Wirral 10K + half marathon 8th Sept, 2019

Story

On Sunday, 8th September 2019 a number of staff members at SPG Law and the Chair of the Association for Victims Damaged by Hormone Pregnancy Testing, Marie Lyon and her husband Mike, will be running either the Wirral Half Marathon or the 10 k to raise money for the Association which is a registered charity. SPG Law in Liverpool want to raise awareness of Hormone Pregnancy Tests, of which Primodos is one, and its tragic and awful effects. SPG Law are fully committed to supporting the Association. We are looking to raise as much money as possible for the Charity and we would be very grateful if you could sponsor us!

Hormonal Pregnancy Tests were prescribed to over 1,000,000 women in the UK between 1950 -1978 and were supposed to revolutionise the way pregnancy was tested to provide a quicker result.

The most prevalent HPTs were Primodos and Amenerone Forte, which were made up of synthetic versions of two natural female sex hormones: estrogen and progestogen. The idea was that the HPT tablets were to be taken at separate intervals over a prescribed period of time. If a bleed occurred within a few days of taking the tablets then the pregnancy test was negative and if no bleeding followed, the test was positive.

HPTs were drugs with no therapeutic benefit, prescribed in a time where safe alternatives were available on the market. A few Doctors expressed concern over them as early as 1956 and by 1975 there was an official warning on the Primodos label stating that it should not be given to pregnant women. Primodos was withdrawn from the UK market in 1978 and HPTs have now been systematically linked to an increased risk of congenital malformations. The tablets were also known to be used as an abortifacient in other countries.

We represent over 200 clients who have suffered birth anomalies ranging from limb deformities to brain damage, as well as those who lost their babies. HPTs have affected the lives of so many individuals and the families around them. Were running to raise awareness for the association that provides them with support in their fight for justice. This money will enable the Association to continue to run. At the moment the Association is funded by membership fees from the victims. Every little bit will help this overlooked charity.

If you would like any further information regarding this action, we would highly recommend that you watch the Sky documentary; Primodos: The Secret Drug Scandal.
