When ACS International Schools started in 1967, so did our commitment to provide high quality international education and to positively impact the communities we serve. Over 50 years on, while trends in education come and go, our founding principles remain. They’re at the heart of everything we do. In 2018, we became a UK-registered charity and ACS International Schools In America Inc. a 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation, was established in the US. ACS has already invested over £1m in means-tested bursary places, providing opportunities for students to benefit from an ACS education and, in turn, enriching our community. In our next 2020-21 academic year, over 40 students will benefit from bursary places. In addition to the significant sums we already commit, we also invest in campus facilities to enhance our students’ learning and support for teaching excellence.

ACS HILLINGDON: PROJECT SHINE

EMPOWERING OUR STUDENTS TO PUT IN THEIR BEST PERFORMANCE

Our vision is to dramatically upgrade our auditorium space, bringing it from the analogue era into the digital age and creating an environment where our students can truly shine. This is vital as while the current space is well-used it is not as well-equipped as it could be to meet the sometimes-competing needs of our Drama and PE departments, or those of our students and visitors.

By revitalising this space we will raise the bar for both achievement and aspiration.

Key improvements will include a state-of-the art sound system, new energy-efficient stage and house lighting, and new audio-visual monitors that will allow for on-stage action to be viewed backstage.

In addition, new flooring will enable us to move props and staging more easily and pave the way for dance and movement to be more of a feature in productions. We also plan to refresh the wall coverings and stage curtains to create a much more attractive and professional setting for school performances and other events.

Incredible learning can be done when students develop their skills and creativity, movement, performance and learning to communicate. We would love your support to help us transform this space for the benefit of our students and for our whole community.

With these enhanced facilities, our students will enjoy a much better environment in which to practise and polish their skills in areas such as movement and communication, as well as performance. And we will be able to expand our theatre design curriculum to include modules on lighting design, set design, sound design and costume design. Overall, our aim is to create a more fitting space for everyone who uses the auditorium and a better platform for our students talents, so they can reach for the stars.

Innovation is driven by parent power

Keeping our school at the cutting edge of innovation requires investment. School fees can only take us so far and to really excel, we need to call upon the generosity of our wider community.

Your support is crucial

For our reimagined auditorium to be ready in time to welcome and inspire our students when they return after the summer break, we need to raise £50,000 from our parent community.

The refurbishment will comprise:

Modern energy-efficient LED lighting, offering a much wider range of colours and light intensity including a roving spotlight and a convenient remote management option, all run from an expanded sound and lighting control room

Speakers that deliver bespoke amplification to different parts of the space, with wireless and dedicated microphones that can be easily programmed to suit specific teaching environments, performances and events

New projectors and a dedicated lectern with built-in HDMI and sound ports for presenters, plus additional ports stage left and right to accommodate a wide range of staging requirements

Audio-visual monitors located in holding areas and in the prop and changing rooms, so performers backstage will be able to view the action on-stage.

This will enhance teaching and learning by:

Developing and strengthening our programme with Theatre Arts and LAMDA, and our connections with film and theatre in the IB Career-related programme

Providing opportunities for more people to be involved off stage

Enabling our PE programme to safely include additional gymnastics and dance classes

Offering young people more opportunities to get involved in activities such as set construction, which can support personal growth and wellbeing

Supporting a cast of teaching professionals who value authentic performance assessment.
