Pulmonary Fibrosis is a terminal illness which causes many difficulties for sufferers and their caring families. It is almost impossible for families to take a break far from home. This is because many sufferers are tethered to their oxygen supply via tubing and have to carry an oxygen cylinder with them. There is no cure for this disease and in several cases (Idiopathic) there is no known cause. There are two medications available that can with some patients help slow down the progress of the fibrosis in their lungs, however, this comes with harsh side effects, requiring regular visits to use a toilet. It is for these reasons and many more than a decision was made to provide a respite facitliy in Northern Ireland to allow sufferers and their familes to have a break.
