Will you help create Manchester's life-saving cancer centre?

One in two of us will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in our lives. Here at Manchester, we're tackling the disease from all angles - from developing novel new treatments to finding ways to detect cancer earlier.

But in 2017, this life-saving research suffered a major setback. Manchester's cancer research centre - the Paterson building - was destroyed in a devastating fire. Hundreds of researchers were displaced to temporary labs across the region.

Today, you can help create a brand new cancer centre that's bigger and better than before. Will you join in, and play your part in re-writing the future of cancer?

A hub for discovery

Your support will create a world-leading cancer centre twice the size of the old Paterson building. It will contain one of the largest concentrations of doctors, nurses and researchers in Europe. And it will pave the way for amazing discoveries that save lives around the world.

Finding answers to cancer

When you're dealing with cancer, there's no time to spare. The building you create will be purpose-built to speed up the pace of discovery. It will bring clinicians and researchers together, so they can join forces to develop and test new treatments. And it will mean ground-breaking new therapies reach patients much sooner.

Giving patients new hope

Your support will bring new hope to millions of families around the world. The new centre will be just metres from Europe's largest cancer hospital, The Christie, putting people with cancer at the heart of everything we do. The University's partnerships with the NHS and Cancer Research UK make this the perfect place to turn scientific progress into life-saving solutions for patients.

Play your part today

Thanks to generous donors and funders around the world, construction on the new building is well underway. Now you can help keep this life-saving project on track.

As work continues on the new centre, your support will help keep up momentum. This year, Team Purple Wave are aiming to raise £10,000 to help complete the building, and get it ready for our world-leading cancer scientists to move in.

That's where you can help. Together we can make discoveries that will re-write the future and save countless lives. Please join in today, and help create a world where many more people survive cancer.

Be part of something special

By fundraising for Re-write Cancer in the Purple Wave 2022, you can be part of something very special. You'll be joining a team of students, staff, alumni and friends of the University - all coming together to bring hope to those affected by cancer.

Simply sign up for the Purple Wave 2022 and click the orange 'Start fundraising' button on this page. And if you reach (or surpass!) your minimum fundraising target, we'll even cover your Purple Wave registration fee.

Minimum fundraising targets will be:

10km - £50

Half marathon - £100

You'll need to have raised this before 6 May 2022. We will support you every step of the way. If, for whatever reason, you don't reach your minimum fundraising target, please don't panic! You'll still be able to take part in the Purple Wave - you'll just be invited to register yourself instead.

We will be incredibly grateful for anything you're able to raise, or give, to help re-write cancer. But don't forget that the minimum fundraising targets are just that - minimum. Every single pound raised will make a big difference. Be bold and ambitious - the sky's the limit!

Its quick and easy to begin fundraising for Re-write Cancer. If you need to talk through your fundraising, or have any questions, just email Emma at supporters@manchester.ac.uk - she'll be delighted to hear from you and happy to help.
