Queen's University Belfast's Mountaineering Club is a sports club dedicated to the outdoors. We focus on developing our member's skills around general mountaineering and various climbing disciplines. The main goal of our club is to get our members passionate about the outdoors and the sports we partake in. We teach our members key skills for mountaineering and climbing such as navigation skills, rope skills, climbing technique, safety procedures, etc. which is passed down from person to person through skill sharing. Our club is completely voluntary so this skill sharing is at no extra cost to our members, and with the club being over 50 years old, we have a lot of skills to share.
One of the key events that we have held for many years is our Everest Challenge, where we, as a club, collectively climb the height of Mount Everest at the climbing wall in the Queen's Sport building (PEC) in aid of a charity, which this year is Disability Sports NI. Everest measures in at 8849m and the climbing wall at the PEC is around 8m tall, which means that we are going to have to do a lot of climbing! We will be climbing from 6pm-10pm on Tuesday 22nd November in the Queen's Sport building so please feel free to come and support us in person or donate to Disability Sports NI. We will have a desk at the PEC and people with buckets going around asking for donations so please show your support by giving as much as you can.
