Emergency repair appeal

Organised by Quetzal

Our building has suffered serious water damage due to heavy rain. Our plans to reopen must be put on hold whilst we carry out repairs. Our insurance will only cover part of the cost of the repair so we need to raise funds to cover the shortfall.

Our organisation is named after the Quetzal, a beautiful South American bird that is prized for its colourful feathers. Legend has it that the Quetzal dies when caged and so it has become a symbol of freedom. At the Quetzal Project we help women to break down the bars of their psychological cages and gain freedom. We empower vulnerable women to transform their lives by supporting their recovery from the trauma of childhood sexual abuse.

Story

Quetzal have started to work towards reopening our city centre location for face to face counselling after the Covid Crisis. Unfortunately our main counselling room has suffered extreme water damage due to heavy rain and is completely unusable. We are asking for your donations to help us repair the room and reopen quickly so we can offer support to survivors of childhood sexual abuse when they need it most.

Through this difficult time we have managed to continue to provide remote counselling to the majority of clients and however this has not been practical for all clients due to lack of privacy or technology. We have been looking forward to coming back to in person counselling, the social distancing restrictions mean it is now more important than ever to have all of our rooms available to use so we are desperate to get the repairs completed as soon as possible.

Our insurance provider will cover part of the work however we still need to find £2000 to complete the repairs.
