Story
10 Teams. 1 Epic Adventure. No Barriers.
Imagine racing across the stunning landscapes of Devon using various modes of transport - steam trains, ferries, bicycles - to name a few!! All while racing against the clock and tackling surprise challenges.
On Saturday 18th July 2026, ten extraordinary teams are doing exactly that.
Inspired by the BBC’s hit show Race Across the World, Race Across Devon 2026 is Devon in Sight’s flagship fundraising event. Each team pairs a visually impaired participant with a sighted guide and a safety member. Starting with a formal blessing by the Bishop of Exeter at 9:00 AM, they will navigate the county in a high-stakes, real-time adventure, concluding at Exeter Cathedral Green at 5:30 PM where a suprise dignatory will crown the winners.
Along the way, sighted guides will even wear specialised glasses to simulate sight loss conditions like glaucoma and macular degeneration — building deep empathy and showing what it truly takes to navigate the world with a visual impairment.
Why We Are Racing
This isn't just a race; it’s a movement to shatter stereotypes. Today, an estimated 51,000 people in Devon are living with sight loss. Behind that number are real people navigating sudden changes to their independence, mobility, and confidence.
We are racing to prove that sight loss should never be a barrier to pursuing ambitious goals, embracing adventure, or achieving personal aspirations.
"Sight loss should never mean losing your independence, confidence, or connection to the world."
We are thrilled to have exclusive insights and tips from Trish Sail, Series 3 winner of BBC's Race Across the World, who is visually impaired herself and embodies the spirit of this challenge.
