Suffolk Accident Rescue Service volunteers provide an enhanced resource to help treat critically ill patients who need urgent specialist care before they reach hospital. All our doctors and paramedics volunteer without charge and we rely on voluntary donations to support our life-saving activity.

Story

Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) volunteer clinicians have been helping treat critically ill and injured patients across Suffolk for the last 47 years. All our doctors and paramedics volunteer without charge and we rely on voluntary donations to support our charitable activity. Since 1972, we have helped treat thousands of patients and saved countless lives.

Unfortunately, since the spread of the coronavirus, we have had to cancel numerous fundraising events and SARS needs to seek alternative methods of fundraising to fill these significant gaps in funding.

Our clinicians are currently working in hospitals, responding on ambulances or providing remote clinical support to help combat COVID-19. They are also still volunteering to help treat patients involved in other emergencies, which are still happening in these challenging times.

We want to ensure that as well as helping beat COVID-19 we minimise its economic impact on our charity.

Therefore, we are launching a virtual fundraising challenge to celebrate our 48th anniversary and to raise vital funds to help secure our future.

It takes 220 miles to circumnavigate Suffolk. Can you complete the equivalent distance maintaining social distancing and in only 52 days? Easy! Maybe you can do it more than once?

You can do it either at home, in your garden, on a treadmill or a bike - just keep your distance and keep it local!

You could walk! 440,000 paces, 8462 a day! (about perfect with a dog)

You could run! Just under 7 km a day

You could cycle! Just over 4 miles a day

You could climb stairs! On average around 420 times up & down a day

Or any other way you can think of - we would love to see your photos.

You can do it on your own, with your family, or as a (virtual) team. The challenge starts on Friday 1st May 2020 and finishes on Suffolk Day, Sunday 21st June 2020.

All money raised will go towards our SARS responders vehicle and equipment costs, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and a portable ventilator.
