Resolve is, every week, helping local residents in their recovery from alcohol and drug misuse through dedicated and tailored groups. These groups are part of our programme of 54 weeks of support, including face-to-face 121s, with the ultimate goal to move those attending to manageable and positive lifestyles for themselves, for their families and for their communities. And they are all free of charge. We have services based in the communities in which we work - Welwyn Garden City, Letchworth and Hatfield. 'This is an insidious, progressive and barbaric illness which will corrupt every aspect of living. Recovery is hard, but the difference is something I can't really put into words, so I'll just hope more people get to see it, and live in it' - a client who attends one of our groups. Through our important ReStart Homeless Services, we also seek to tackle and prevent homelessness, and support people who are street homeless, sleeping rough or at immediate risk. We work with people to regain control of their lives, stabilise their issues and move towards a place where they can live healthy, happy and independent lives, contributing to the communities in which they live. Resolve - Where Change Begins

Story

Substance misuse has a devastating impact, touching every part of a person’s life and rippling out into families and communities. It harms physical and mental health, fractures relationships, leads to unemployment and financial crisis.

In 2025/6, we supported 365 individuals through our day treatment centres in Letchworth and Hatfield. That's 365 lives and many more if you add loved ones around them.

Our services combines structured group therapy, one-to-one keywork, and counselling to help people achieve sustainable recovery, improve their health, and re-engage positively with family and community life.

As the only dedicated day treatment and recovery service for drug and alcohol misuse in North Hertfordshire, Resolve reaches people in greatest need, including those facing homelessness, poverty, or social isolation.

People like Kirsty:

Then - 'I was drinking 3 bottles of wine a day. All times of the day, every day, it started creeping into the morning. It took over my life; it took over my body. I became physically dependent. I was slowly killing myself. I wanted better for me. I thought, enough is enough. I went to some dark places.

I reached out to Resolve. I had a perception of what groups were like. I was terrified. I thought people might recognise me. I was desperate to get well, even cutting down was tough. The groups were not as bad as I thought they would be. I was with like-minded people. There was no judgement, we are all in the same boat. Someone would say something I would relate too. I was not going mad. There’s no stereotype at the group of, ‘Hello, I’m an alcoholic – rather it’s, ‘How’s your week been?’

I guarantee I would walk in feeling rubbish and walk out feeling that little bit lighter. And that’s down to the group. It’s an illness. I don’t have a choice.

Now - 'I feel fantastic! It’s 4 months clean now, the longest I have ever been without alcohol.

I like the Resolve regulars; we are like a little family. We all check in. If one of us has a blip, we’re gutted for them – and say, ‘You’ve got this!’

We’ve seen each other at complete worst – when we see improvements, it’s all down to Resolve.

Here at Resolve we rely entirely on fundraising to fund our vital work. That means we receive no statutory funding and rely entirely on charitable donations to sustain our essential service.

Ramble for Resolve is our first go at a community participation event to raise some funds, awareness, bring people together and boost health and wellbeing.

So please donate whatever you can, as it really does all add up, and know you are supporting, and changing, local lives.

Thank you.
