At Raphael House, the first day of school is more than just supplies. It’s a chance for children to feel confident, included, and excited about the year ahead. But for families experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, back to school season can bring more stress than celebration.
In 2024, families spent an average of $865 per child on school supplies (source: National Retail Federation). That price tag is a hurdle for families working to rebuild their lives, and it can put kids at a disadvantage before the school year even begins.
Through our Back to School Drive, we’re raising funds to support 150 children in our Residential Shelter and Bridge Program. Each child will receive a brand new backpack, a complete set of school supplies tailored to their grade level, and access to academic support through tutoring and enrichment activities throughout the year.
Gifts to the Back to School Fund also help sustain the wraparound programs and operations that make this work possible — from one-on-one tutoring and extracurriculars to the safe shelter and personalized case management our families rely on.
What your gift can do:
$250 - Gear up 10 students with complete school-supply kits
$500 - Give 10 children brand-new backpacks
$1,000 - Send 20 kids to school with backpacks full of supplies
In the past year, 100 percent of students in our programs demonstrated improved academic performance, and 100 percent showed growth in social-emotional development. When children feel supported and prepared, they thrive — in the classroom and beyond.
Join us in making sure every Raphael House student starts the school year feeling ready to learn, grow, and succeed.
