Story
We are inviting the children of RAPS to raise money for the PTFA through sponsorship to run (or walk) 26 miles between the dates of the TCS London Marathon, Sunday 23rd April and the Barratt Homes Romsey Relay Marathon on Sunday 21st May. Whilst we encourage children to cover a mile a day, they can work the schedule around their commitments. With the weather set to improve, children will also be able to complete their daily mile at school & include it as part of their challenge. Children will have 2 Bank Holidays during the challenge time so they can enjoy some well earned rest days or get in some extra miles.
We are delighted to be working alongside other Romsey based PTAs from local primary schools, after the kind introduction by a Romsey Father who has previously organised similar fundraising for his daughters school (https://www.hampshirechronicle.co.uk/news/23112985.gabby-pattison-raises-1-000-cupernham-junior-school-pta/). We are extremely grateful to Mr Pattison for inviting us to take part in this challenge.
We will be working together to build a running community and organise running meets and events during the challenge to encourage children (and their grown ups) to get together with their friends to cover their daily distance whilst having fun and hopefully making some new friends from other local schools. These meets will be advertised on our Facebook page, which we invite all participants to join, and via email. Facebook group: https://tinyurl.com/jdn69zm7
The Barratt Homes Romsey Relay Marathon is offering ALL challenge participants the chance to take part in the final leg as a 1.3 mile lap of the Relay Marathon course at Broadlands on 21st May, FREE OF CHARGE. This is, of course, optional and you can finish the challenge without attending.
The Barratt Homes Romsey Relay Marathon is a fantastic, free, day out for the whole family and we invite you to come along and support our runners and celebrate their achievements. If you are a keen runner yourself, there is still time to sign up to the Romsey Relay Marathon and raise money for your chosen charity, if you would like to raise funds for the PTFA then please get in touch with Chloe Phillips, PTFA Chair.
We are pleased to say that the school staff are also getting involved and have put together a team for the Romsey Relay Marathon, we will be supporting them every step of the way:
"We are running to raise £3000 towards a Sheltered Learning area in our Psalm 23 garden; Local Councillor, Nik Daas has kindly donated £1000 and we are excited to be taking part in the Romsey Relay Marathon to raise the remaining £2000."
