Each year we spend approximately £2,000 to feed our horses, with each bale of hay costing £40. This year, given the lack of rain, it has meant the grass in our fields can’t keep up with the grazing needs of our horses and ponies (on average a horse can graze 16 hours a day). The result is that we are having to use a lot more hay and haylage than usual for this time of year.
