Additional Defibrillator for Real Bedford Girls FC

We would like to purchase a portable defibrillator to provide cover at some of the venues used by the club for training and matches that do not currently have a defibrillator.

Bedford Ladies and Girls Football Club offers opportunities for girls and ladies to play association football at an amateur level. The club offers walking football, and runs after-school sessions to allow more girls to try football and encourage them to consider playing.

Story

Real Bedford Girls FC would like to purchase at least one portable defibrillator to help protect the lives of over 300 women and girls.

Update - 15/3/24 - We have raised enough funding to buy the first machine! Thank you!

Some of the venues that the club uses for training sessions and matches do not have a defibrillator available.

Other venues that do have a defibrillator can find themselves victim to damage or theft, so they cannot be used when needed.

Over 300 girls and women train and play with the club each week, with over 60 volunteers coaching and helping to run the club. When you also consider the number of parents in attendance, and opposition teams on matchdays, one machine will provide protection for well over 600 people each week.

The club would like to purchase at least one portable defibrillator, costing £1,100, which can be taken to numerous locations, providing additional protection should the worst happen.

If we raise more funding than the target, the funds will be used to cover the cost of replace the pads and batteries of the machine, which has to be done at regular intervals, and maybe a second defibrillator!

The benefits of having a defibrillator are clear:

In the UK, there are more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests each year.

Less than 1 in 10 people who have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the UK survive.

For every minute without receiving CPR or defibrillation, the chances of survival decrease by up to 10%.

In short, installing a defibrillator can more than double the chances of saving someone’s life if they’ve had a cardiac arrest.
