Church attendance in England is in free fall decline, with all trends pointing to the closure of all major denominations in the UK within our lifetimes!
The legacy of faith heroes like Spurgeon, Booth and Wesley stand on a knife edge, and a nation that's raised up and sent missionaries to the world has woken up to the reality that the mission field that used to be "over there", is now right here!
In 2020 Covid 19 brought the world to a stop and the church in the UK was no different. Many churches closed their doors for the last time, never to open again.
But there was a different story being written!
We'd like to introduce you to Redcar Baptist, a small church that was just getting by. We took the conscious decision to stop playing defence, to throw open our doors and meet the needs of our community - serving as the hands and feet of Christ, proclaiming His love and truth in one of our country’s most deprived towns.
We opened a Community Grocery - where for the equivalent of $5 members of the community can fill their baskets with up to $30 worth of fresh produce and groceries, every day of the week!
We opened up Common Ground coffee shop as a melting pot for community to flourish - bridging the gap between the community, the gospel message, the church and life long discipleship.
We stopped focusing on what we didn't have and nurtured what we did have - the often overlooked but God given talents of our small membership.
Through this we started play groups, mental health courses, youth groups, back to work clubs, support groups for the bereaved... the list really does go on and on!
As we stepped out, our community saw the love of Christ in action and we began to see our little church come to life - soon, this church of just 40 adult members was welcoming over 1000 people through its doors each week to access the support of our church family!
We're seeing people encounter God for the first time, come to faith, be baptised, and step into lifelong discipleship as they’re transformed in His name!
God is doing something remarkable among us, but the story isn't stopping here!
We have a vision to plant and re-plant churches in our region!
We’re taking that same approach of investing in the people of God to minister to the poorest communities in our country to see lives transformed in the name of Jesus and that story of church decline flipped on its head!
We're going on the offensive, with a vision to take ground for the Kingdom, but we need your help to do it.
We’re in the advanced stages of conversation with partner churches and Christian mission charities across our area about how together we can plant and replant churches in our region.
We have the expertise, the physical space and the resolve to do it, but the reality is that ministry costs money. As generous as our communities are, they simply don't have the financial resources to get this vision off the ground.
There's that often-quoted verse from Psalm 50, "I own the cattle on a thousand hills" says the Lord.
It's His work we're setting out to achieve and so we're calling out in his name to our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Perhaps you're part of a church that has a little left over in its missions budget for the year.
Perhaps you have some personal resources and you're looking for a cause where your money is going to make a genuine, transformational impact.
No matter how big or small, any contribution would make all the difference.
