Story

Every year New Arc Wildlife Rescue rescues and rehabilitates between 10 and 20 red squirrels. Mostly infants who have become separated from their mother, these are then reared at our wildlife centre and soft released back into the wild. The red squirrel is classed as near threatened in Scotland, and Endangered across the whole of the UK. Every individual red squirrel is of conservation importance!

According to Saving Scotland's Red Squirrels "Red squirrel populations have seriously declined, with only around 120,000 remaining in Scotland today. In some places they have not been seen for many years"

We are raising funds to build two new enclosures which will form a critical part of our red squirrel rehabilitation programme. These enclosures will allow orphaned red squirrels who are reared here at the centre to practice their foraging, climbing and caching skills prior to release. Their sleeping boxes and feeders will then be transported to their release site when they are ready, to allow them time to adjust post release.
