Story
Join us in celebrating the life of Reece Thompson and the lives he saved through the gift of life
Our son, Reece Thomas Thompson, sadly passed away at the age of 19 on 26 July 2022 following a tragic cycling accident, he left behind us, his grandparents, his little sister Aly, and his baby boy Grayson. Since Reeces passing, we as a family have been raising money in his memory to benefit patients and their families across North Wales.
When Reece was injured, he was airlifted to Stoke University Hospital for treatment meaning we all needed to book hotel rooms to be nearby. We spent over £1,500 on accommodation, something we don't want other families from North Wales to have to struggle with in such distressing situations.
With Reece's injury, we wanted to be close to our son at all times. We were three hours away from home so were left with no other choice but to organise accommodation. Hotels were expensive and having close family for support, we needed a few rooms. We were very lucky to have family who could support us financially as this could have ended with us sleeping in our car with our 11-year-old daughter.
We have realised that so many families find themselves in distressing situations, similar to ours, when a loved one had an accident in North Wales. Some families have found themselves travelling back and forth to Stoke University Hospital for months to be with their family.
Before Reece passed away, he chose to donate his organs to save the lives of others, so we are supporting the Gift of Life Fund through Awyr Las: The North Wales NHS Charity.
We are hoping that in some way, we can help other families like ours to be with their loved ones who need to go to Stoke for treatment.
How can you help us?
Reece's life has touched so many people across North Wales and his choice to be an organ donor before he passed away meant that his organ recipients can live their lives to the full thanks to him. He has given them the Gift of Life.
Please help our family and friends raise money to help other families in North Wales who need to travel to Stoke University Hospital to be with a loved one after a tragic accident.
Donate today, or even start your own fundraiser in memory of Reece or your own loved one who has sadly lost their life.
