The overall aim of OHOB is to provide humanitarian aid relief for refugee and asylum seekers in Europe and other essential items to families and individuals in the UK who have been disadvantaged by conflict, circumstance, socio-economic status or homelessness.

Story

We need your help!

We have been asked to provide some refugee resettlement support to 5 families - 3 new mothers - a family from Ukraine and a family of 5 who has recently been made homeless.

We have been asked to help a family from Ukraine who has recently entered the UK and needs help with clothing and food vouchers.

We have a family who has recently lost their home and requires support with payments for the storage of their furniture items until they can find a new house to rent.

Finally, we have been asked to help with some support for three mothers who are all expecting a baby at the end of April and May - 2 of the mothers are not eligible for the Maternity Grant, so cannot access the £500 so need help with some essential items.

Practical resettlement support is a critical part of the refugee journey. OHOB support this through their resettlement project providing what is needed at a foundational level for refugees to start to feel safe once again.

Reaching Safety - Another Journey

Once families or individuals have reached safety their journey does not stop there. Once they have been resettled or given asylum they begin the journey of rebuilding their lives and their home so they can start to once again feel safe. We want those who have fled conflict to feel welcome and give them the confidence to rebuild their lives without fear.

Providing what someone needs is such an important part of resettlement and for those seeking asylum, especially if they are traumatised by their experiences. It is so important especially for the children that they feel welcome and know that they are cared for within the wider community.

Refugee Resettlement Support

We require continual funding to be able to provide refugee resettlement support at its most basic level with practical items and to be able to provide payments for goods and services. Year on year we see the need to increase our provision.

In the last 8 months, we have helped 100's of families and individuals with nearly £20,000 worth of support - this is almost double what we spent the year before. We support families and individuals from Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Iraq, and Eritrea, and we have started to support some of the Afghan families following the crisis in 2021. We have also very recently started receiving requests for families who have made it across from Ukraine.

By providing very practical support to help refugees and asylum to begin to rebuild their lives, we support them at the foundation by simply providing some of the essential items needed to set up a home. We do this simply by providing payments towards goods and services, (we have seen an increase in payments due to the rising costs we are seeing) gift cards for items of clothing, food vouchers, household items including furniture white goods and small kitchen items, baby items (many mothers who seek asylum are not entitled to the £500 maternity grant so we provide support with accessing items needed), travel costs or payments towards educational resources/courses.

As always thank you for your continued support XX

At this time please do not offer any items as we do not have the facility to accept or store them. Thank you
