In 2023 Woking borough council declared it's self bankrupt. As a consequence of this all non statutory funding was stopped. This included all funding for open access day centres and support for the elderly and vulnerable. Regenerate-Rise steeped in in May 2024 and opened RISE Woking, providing day services for the over 60's in the borough. As part of Woking's bankruptcy all community centres were being transferred as community assets as they were no longer able to look after them.
St Mary's community centre in Byfleet, is where we hold our day services. The building is rich in history, originally a Victorian era school and then in 1986 was reopened by Princess Diana as a day centre for the elderly. On June 1st, 2025, Regenerate-RISE is taking on full management of the building. As well as providing day services for the elderly we want to see the centre thrive as a community hub, accessed by all, keeping its rich heritage while making sure its ready for whatever the future holds.
One of our main aims is to refurbish the 170 year old floor in the main hall and Inkwell room. Restoring its original beauty while making sure its smooth and safe for all.
