The Whaley Waltz and the Carnival 4 are races that meant a great deal to Thomas and his family. The summer of 2013 Thomas ran both these races, the Whaley Waltz on Saturday 29th June, wearing race number 95 - the year of his birth, and the Carnival 4 on Saturday 13th July, wearing race number 123 - pictured above at the start of the race, six days before he died on Friday July 19th.
This year Buxton Athletics Club, who run the Carnival 4, and Goyt Valley Striders, who run the Whaley Waltz, have set up these races to take place virtually over two weeks around the dates the actual races should have taken place in June and July 2020 and the clubs are asking those who take part to donate to the Thomas Theyer Foundation.
All donations help to support the work of the charity - funding outdoor activity for young people with additional needs or difficult life circumstances and to provide a new counselling service.
Thomas loved to keep fit, he swam, played football and above all he ran. He was always kind and wanted to help others and he is loved and missed greatly by his family and those who knew him. The Thomas Theyer Foundation was set up by Thomass family to do some good in his name and focuses on the physical and mental health of young people with additional needs or difficult life circumstances and their families.
The charity is grateful for all donations, be they linked to a physical activity or simply in memory of Thomas.
