Story
A Rocha UK is privileged to run two nature reserves, Foxearth Meadows in North Essex, which we own, and Wolf Fields in West London on land leased from the council.
There is an urgent need and opportunity for a green recovery from Covid-19 - to build back better. The pandemic has shown just how rapidly nature can thrive if given a chance as well as how much people need nature for their own wellbeing: during the lockdown we registered a 200% increase of visitors to Foxearth Meadows. Lockdown also highlighted the injustice that so many people, in poorer urban areas, are deprived of easy access to nature.
In 2021 A Rocha UK wants to respond by transforming the impact of our nature reserves far beyond their own locality. We plan to turn them into demonstration hubs to show what can be achieved for nature and people working on small pieces of available rural and urban land. We want to inspire and equip Christians, churches and other community groups,to develop similar projects in their area, providing more spaces for nature and access to nature nearby for many more people. Our plan for 2021 includes:
-> Providing training events to equip at least 100 churches and community groups across both reserves..
-> Improving access to our reserves for school children and those with mobility issues allowing them to access the reserves throughout the year.
-> Producing video resources and podcast material, as well as virtual seminars, on different aspects of the reserve work, to help people replicate it in their area - wherever they are in the UK
- > Developing new ways to recording and monitoring all habitats and species to support our Target Ten project
We are looking to raise £25,000 to help us cover the costs of this expansion of our work, so needed in the face of the biodiversity and climate crisis. Can you help us multiply the impact of our reserves across the country - for God, people and nature?
