When Paul's mum fell sick, he had to drop out of primary school to look after her and his younger siblings. Paul had a dream of becoming an engineer, and when one year passed after dropping out, this dream began to fade into the background.
One in four children in Kibera Informal Settlements drop out of primary school and do not complete their basic primary education due to poverty levels in their families. Once they grow up, these young people join the already huge unskilled workforce competing for unreliable, low-paid work, and the cycle of poverty continues. But Paul's story doesn't end there.
Paul joined Turning Point's Transition Programme and his life took a dramatic turn. Knowing he was further behind his peers, Paul strived to catch up on the education he missed. With determination and assistance from his teachers, Paul is now back in school and on track to complete his primary education. His dreams of becoming an engineer are slowly coming back into focus.
We invest in each child's holistic development, looking to develop their talents and leadership potential, nurture their character and resilience and restore their hope for the future. Children who have come through this programme have completed primary school, progressed through secondary school and even university.
With a donation of £150, you can entirely support a child in the Transition Programme for a year. Partner with us in helping vulnerable children complete their primary education.
