Story

Walk The Ridgeway for The Crib

Help Us Support Young People and Families in Our Community

We are raising £5,000 for The Crib, a grassroots youth organisation based in De-Beaviour Hackney, that has been supporting young people and families in Hackney for over 26 years.

From Monday 30th March to Saturday 4th April 2026,

Darren and Bev, alongside their four-legged teammate Rizla the Vizsla, will take on the challenge of walking the full length of the historic The Ridgeway.

Often described as Britain’s oldest road, The Ridgeway stretches across stunning countryside, ancient landscapes, and historic landmarks.

Over six days, they will walk mile after mile to raise vital funds to support the life-changing work of The Crib.

Why We Are Walking

Janette Collins MBE has been based in Hackney working with young people, parents, and families. For more than four decades she set up the Crib 26 years ago it has been a trusted safe space where people can turn for support, guidance, and opportunity.

The Crib empowers young people to believe in themselves and make positive choices, while also supporting parents and families to stand up for themselves and their communities.

Through mentoring, creative activities, youth programmes, and community support, The Crib helps young people who may be facing challenges such as violence, exclusion, and lack of opportunity.

The Challenge

This six-day walk will test Darren and Bev’s stamina, determination, and probably their blister care skills too! And Rizla will be keeping them on their toes along the way.

But every mile walked will help The Crib continue to:

-Provide safe spaces for young people

-Support parents and families in their communities

-Offer mentoring, creative programmes and guidance

-Create opportunities that inspire young people to build positive futures
