Story

The RISE School has worked for over 10 years with children from impoverished rural communities in West Bengal. These children experience insurmountable barriers on an almost daily basis, working out in the fields for up to 12 hours, sometimes struggling to get two square meals a day. Without an education, they face a difficult future with limited employment prospects, mental health issues and potential of substance abuse.

Our Vision

Our dream is that one day every child in West Bengal will be able to read and write. We believe that inspiring education can elevate life chances. The RISE School works at grassroots level to provide free literacy classes for 10-18 years olds; we also invest our time in supporting the families, running empowerment programmes and mentoring opportunities for the children.

Our innovative ‘Yearn to Learn’ curriculum has benefited over 650 students who are first generation learners living below the poverty line.

- 96% are now literate.

- 91% of our students have passed the Higher Secondary (A-Level) exams.

- 87% have passed the Madhyamik (GCSE) exams.

Why are we raising funds

We have ambitious plans for 2025 and need your help to expand the RISE school's provisions. These include:

1. Building a computer lab and widening the curriculum to include computing skills.

2. Empowering students' career opportunities through vocational skill development.

3. Enabling educational trips to children who have never left their village.

4. Providing a nutritious hot meal to the children.

5. Employing a qualified counsellor to provide mental health support to the children.
