At least 150 people are currently known to have died and over 5,000 people have been left injured from the blasts. There are still victims trapped under the rubble and footage shared on social media shows the moment the chemicals exploded, sending an enormous shock wave across the city that destroyed homes and a whole community. An estimated 300,000 people have been left homeless.
The explosion and shock waves were reportedly heard and felt as far away as Cyprus, more than 150 km away.
