RMA150

We need your help to launch our Post-Doctoral Fellowship Scheme as part of the Royal Musical Association's 150th Anniversary celebrations. Please join us in supporting the future of music research.

The Royal Musical Association was founded in 1874 ‘for the investigation and discussion of subjects connected with the art and science of music’. Its activities have since evolved to embrace every conceivable aspect of music research, whether expressed in words, notation or sounds. The Association aims to sustain and enhance musical culture in the United Kingdom, while liaising with other subject organisations at home and abroad where appropriate and recognizing outstanding scholarly and creative achievement by individuals worldwide. It further aims to support the education and training of emerging scholars and practitioners. The Association’s chief activities in pursuit of these aims are the promotion of conferences, symposia, study days, workshops and other public meetings; the publication and dissemination of books, journals, and other outlets for research of international standing; the sponsorship of awards and prizes; the advocacy of musical studies with public and private policy-making bodies, and with repositories of musical resources; and engagement with the student body in the United Kingdom.

Story

Today, the study of music across all levels of education is facing extremely difficult challenges. We all know the value to individuals and society that learning, making, studying and understanding music can bring. Indeed, many of us have benefitted from a system that in the past was far more supportive of music education.

The RMA recognises this and as part of our 150th Anniversary celebrations we are launching a Post-Doctoral Fellowship Scheme, for early career and independent scholars not holding full-time, open-ended Teaching and Research positions in Higher Education.

We now need your help to make a difference to an early career or independent music scholar's research life. Because together we can make a difference. Over the past year we have raised £22,000 from a small number of major donors all of whom are active members of the RMA.

Please join us in supporting the future of music research.
