RNOH Sahara Desert Trek

On 18 March 2026 RNOH Consultants Mr Shafafy, Mr Afolayan and Mr Anwar will be taking on the Sahara Desert in a 5 day trek covering 100km; passing through Morocco’s forbidding landscape punctuated by peaks, gorges, dunes and oases.

World-leading specialists need world-leading support. RNOH Charity strengthens and supports the people, research and infrastructure that make RNOH one of the world's best orthopaedic hospitals.

Story

RNOH Charity is dedicated to supporting the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), a world-renowned centre of excellence for neuro-musculoskeletal (MSK) care. They are here to support RNOH to help create the best patient experience for every adult and child facing complex and life-changing conditions.

By providing additional funding, they allow RNOH to go above and beyond the limitations of an NHS budget, supporting cutting-edge research, enhancing patient and staff experiences, and ensuring the hospital facilities remain world-class.

The Challenge - On the 18th March 2026 RNOH Consultants Mr Shafafy, Mr Afolayan and Mr Anwar alongside Mr Anwar's Son, Farouk will be taking on the Sahara Desert in a 100km trek over 5 days and are asking for your support.

RNOH is a national NHS hospital, meaning any one of us could be referred here. Every year, thousands of adults and children come to us for treatment for MSK conditions such as:

scoliosis – curvature of the spine

sarcoma – types of rare bone and soft tissue cancer

joint replacement, such as new hips and knees

treatment for life-changing physical deformities, such as club foot; and help with devastating problems caused by accidents or in the line of duty as part of the Armed Forces that may result in amputation and require months or even years of rehabilitation

The charity's primary focus is to help the hospital to provide world-class care for all its patients and support the hospital's pioneering work in orthopaedic research and education.
