Established over 60 years ago and with over 60 members, we perform regularly in and around the Black Country and beyond, with a wide repertoire of songs, old and new, delivered in our own unique style.

Story

The Gentlemen Songsters are proud to partner with Maggie’s to help raise money for the building of four new Maggie’s cancer support facilities in the West Midlands. Maggie’s have been established for 30 years in the UK and Europe but will be now bringing their crucial support to hospitals in Birmingham, Coventry, Stoke and Wolverhampton and we are honoured to have been asked to support them in this process.

As part of this project, we are aiming to record a brand-new choral version of the Black Country Anthem, a song originally written and performed by The Empty Can Band and loved by people across the Black Country for its humour, pride and unmistakable local character.

Our ambition is to take this celebration of Black Country identity to one of the most famous recording studios in the world — Abbey Road Studios — and create a powerful new arrangement that captures the spirit, warmth and community that the anthem represents.

While this project celebrates our regional pride, it is also about making a meaningful difference. Through The Road to Abbey Road Project, we are raising funds for Maggie’s, a remarkable charity that provides free support for people living with cancer, as well as their families and friends. Maggie’s centres offer practical advice, emotional support and welcoming spaces for anyone navigating the challenges of cancer.

By supporting this project, you are helping us do two special things at once:

• Record a unique choral version of the Black Country Anthem at Abbey Road

• Support the incredible work that Maggie’s does for people facing cancer

Music has always brought communities together, and this project is about celebrating our community while supporting those who need help the most.

Please consider donating and sharing our page. Together we can bring the voice of the Black Country to Abbey Road while supporting the life-changing work of Maggie’s.
