Story

A team of 17 cyclists will be embarking on an incredible challenge — cycling 500 miles and climbing 40,000 feet across the Alps in 7 days, from Basel to Milan, to raise funds for Celtic FC Foundation.

Celtic FC Foundation projects create opportunities for society’s most vulnerable and marginalised groups. These projects address the root causes of poverty and promote inclusion for children, young people and adults.

On 13th June 2026, the cyclists will depart from St. Jakob’s Park, the home of FC Basel in Switzerland. This is was the scene of Celtic’s first European Cup match in the 1969/70 season. A journey which ended with the final in the San Siro in Milan against Feyenoord. An achievement in itself, even if the result was disappointing…but let’s not dwell too much on that. The group will then journey through the alps over the next 7 days, and arrive at the San Siro in Milan on the 19th June, tired but elated.

Some of the cyclists have already cycled to Lisbon, some to Seville and some to both in aid of Celtic FC Foundation. This challenge will complete the trilogy of cycling to the cities where Celtic has competed in European Finals.

Training for this event has already started but as the weather turns it becomes increasingly more difficult for the cyclists to be motivated to get out on the bike on cold and wet winter days. What keeps them braving the elements is the impact that your donations will have on the lives of those less fortunate.

Your donations will support the Foundation to continue to deliver projects such as the Paradise Recovery Café, which provides crucial support to those who are facing challenges such as substance use, mental health struggles, trauma and homelessness. If we reach our target of £40,000, we can support the Foundation to deliver one two hour session per week for a whole year. This project creates a vital pathway towards recovery.

The group has set itself an ambitious target to raise £40 000 and with your help, we can make a lasting impact on people’s lives. Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to Celtic FC Foundation. Plus, don't forget to add Gift Aid if you're a UK taxpayer, which adds 25% to your donation at no extra cost to you! Thank you so much for your support and generosity.
