Story

The adaption of the former primary school (1876-2017) will provide a base for many diverse pursuits at Rocks and Wheels in Dalbeattie.

The unused buildings which hold significant heritage to the town has an iconic value to the community with its ideal location to fulfil our community aspirations.

It has been an exciting 11 months as Dalbeattie Community Initiative transition from project aspirations to developing the site into Rocks and Wheels. During this phase of the development we have been extremely fortunate to have the financial support from funders listed on our website www.rocksandwheels.org for the restoration of the three heritage granite buildings. The Rocks and Wheels team have worked very hard to manage the construction costs of £7.8m so that we could start work on the buildings in December 2024. All funding is in place to complete construction work ready for handover in Spring 2026.

The next phase is to furnish and fully equip Rocks and Wheels. We are extremely grateful for the support from our community. We hope you can help support and get involved during this next phase along with our funders.
