We're less than two months into 2024, and we're already reading alarming reports based on data from NHS Trusts about the increase in children living in destitution, resulting in the revival of Victorian-era diseases, such as scurvy and rickets due to a lack of nutritious food. Truly shocking.

In an interview last week, Professor Sir Michael Marmot, Professor of Epidemiology at University College London and Director of the UCL Institute of Health Equity, talked about this shocking new data and explained that the reality is:

This is the reality that the families we work with on our Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg Project face every day. This is not just a cost of living crisis; it’s a public health crisis, and children are the most affected.

We know that having Rose Vouchers transforms children’s diets, with the number of children getting their 5 a day increasing from 7% to 64% once they're on the project.

As you can imagine, despite us supporting more families than ever, our Rose Vouchers for Fruit & Veg Projects are at full capacity, and we have waiting lists of families needing our support.

Last year, to keep up with high inflation, we increased the number of Rose Vouchers per child from £3 to £4. This has increased our costs significantly, and now we have a shortfall that we urgently need to cover.
