Story
What is our event?
On Sunday 16th June the 5th Woodbridge Sea Scouts will be undertaking a sponsored row and paddle down the River Deben from Woodbridge to Bawdsey and back. The cubs, scouts and explorers (aged 10 to 18) will be working together to power one of our pulling boats, and a flotilla of kaysk, over the distance of 20 miles. This event will be challenging in terms of seamanship and team work. It must be completed within a 12 hour time limit defined by the tides and the sun!
Why are we fundraising?
We are raising money towards the build of our new HQ. Planning permission has recently been granted, which means we now need to raise £400,000 to make our dream a reality. The group provides skills for life for over 160 young people in Suffolk. The sponsored event is appropriate because the group specialises in water activities and are affiliated to the Royal Navy.
The new HQ will allow the group to offer more young people the opportunities of scouting. We will have changing rooms, showers and disabled facilities. We hope that the HQ will become a community asset to the people to Woodbridge and that other youth organisations in Suffolk and beyond will be able hire the facilities as a base for water activities.
How can you help?
We hope that up to 80 young people will take part in this event and they will all be collecting sponsorship separately. If one of the participants asks you for sponsorship, thank you for your generous donation in support of their participation.
If you would like to sponsor our group in this event, please do so via this site, and thank you for your generous donation!
