Story
Last November, Emma’s beloved son Alexander died from a life-limiting neurological disorder caused by a rare mutation of the WWOX gene. Throughout his illness, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity was by their side, helping them navigate hospital visits, home care, and the emotional toll of such a devastating diagnosis.
Now, Emma and her four-year-old daughter Bella are taking on the AJ Bell Mini Great North Run for the second year running, in memory of Alexander – and they need your help.
Emma says:
“Alexander always wanted to be famous, so this is a chance for us to fulfil his dream – let’s make Alexander famous!”
By donating to #TeamAlexander, or by joining the crowd to cheer them on, you’re not only helping to keep Alexander’s memory alive – you’re also helping countless families going through the heartbreak of a seriously ill child.
Why Rainbow Trust Matters
Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity pairs families with a dedicated Family Support Worker, providing hands-on help in hospitals, at home, and in the community. Whether it’s helping siblings cope, providing transport to medical appointments, or just being there to talk – they make an incredible difference when life feels overwhelming.
Funds raised by #TeamAlexander will go directly to supporting families like Emma’s, including those in Newcastle and the North East where Rainbow Trust has a dedicated care team.

On a route packed with cheering crowds, high-fives, and fancy dress, thousands of kids – just like us – will be running their hearts out. Whether it’s the daring 1.5km Mini Dash (ages 3–8) or the 4km Junior Sprint (ages 9–16), every single step counts. And this year, we’re proud to say every step we take will help support families going through the unimaginable.
Why Rainbow Trust?
Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity supports families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness. Their incredible Family Support Workers are there through the toughest times – in hospital corridors, at home after devastating news, or simply holding a hand when it’s needed most. They’re there when families need someone the most – and they need our help to keep doing it.
How You Can Help
Every pound you donate helps fund that vital support – whether it’s transport to hospital appointments, emotional support at the bedside, or a listening ear when words fail.
🎯 Our goal? Raise as much as we can – and maybe even a little more.
So please, if you can, donate today. Share our page. Cheer us on. Be part of something amazing.
