Story
On Friday 26th April 2024, the annual Roast Beef Lunch Event will be held at the Hurlingham Club, London. Each year a Military Charity is chosen to receive funds raised at the Lunch and this year the Royal Tank Regiment Benevolent Fund (Registered Charity No 248487) is extremely fortunate to be the sole recipient. Monies raised from the event will support our Charitable Objects to provide assistance to both serving and retired Officers/Soldiers. For more information about the Club please see Roast Beef Club website theroastbeefclub.com.
The event is always held on the Friday closest to St Georges Day. A Challenger 2 Tank will be on display at the Club and also a RTR Veteran Amputee, Murray Hambro, whom the Charity has assisted, will give a presentation and his race bike will be present.
Here is Murray Hambro's story:
Murray Hambro served with the Royal Tank Regiment for 12 years. Unfortunately, in 2010 whilst on operations in Afghanistan, the Warthog armoured vehicle he was travelling in drove over an IED.
As a result of the injuries he sustained in the blast, Murray ended up having both his legs amputated below the knee.
Sadly, worse was to come as he struggled mentally with the aftermath of injury and his discharge from the military, he then lost his young son to a sudden illness.
He races motorbikes, runs his own gym, and competes successfully in international Crossfit competitions.
The RTR Benevolent Fund have supported Murray in his challenges and continue to follow his journey.
