We're hoping to purchase a variety of new rugs for animals across our sanctuary, particularly our Special Care donkeys and Shetland ponies.

Many of our Special Care donkeys live outdoors throughout the year and, unlike horses and ponies, donkeys' coats aren't naturally waterproof. Having well-fitting, weather-appropriate rugs available helps us keep them warm and dry as conditions change.

Some of our Shetland ponies are clipped for welfare reasons, making it especially important that we can provide them with suitable protection from the elements afterwards.

Unfortunately, many of our rugs have seen better days, and we need some new sizes. We want to make sure each animal has a correctly fitting rug in the right weight – from lightweight waterproof rugs for milder days through to warmer rugs when winter really sets in.

A new rug costs around £50 to £60, but you don't need to fund a whole rug to make a difference.

Whether you can give £5 or £25 towards keeping an animal warm, or enough to purchase a complete rug, every donation will help us prepare our donkeys and ponies for the months ahead.
