Prison Reform Trust, Prison Physical Education Instructors and selected members of the London running community will support 10 people living in prison to train for and to run a half-marathon within the grounds of HMP Brixton, to benefit their physical and mental health whilst raising funds for PRT.
The 10 participants will have access to a 16-week training programme in the lead up to running the half-marathon in late April. During the training programme, local running experts will join the group, providing both motivational talks and hands-on training sessions to inspire and encourage participants.
Participants will have access to a buddy scheme whereby we will recruit 10 people from the London running community who are also training for an April marathon. These individuals will make weekly contact with their buddy to share how their running journey is going. They can also provide fundraising advice or be an extension of the resident’s fund raising, as well as being a valuable point-of-contact on release.
On the marathon day 40 people from the community will join the 10 residents running.
